Mazda B Series pickup trucks are great if you are looking for an inexpensive truck with great fuel economy. I actually owned a 1999 Mazda B2500 and it was the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. It only had 11 miles on it when I purchased it, and when I sold it in 2007, it had 152,000 miles on it. Amazingly, it never had any mechanical problems during the entire time I owned it – and my friend, who drives it now, has put 20,000 additional miles on it with no mechanical problems!
One of the downsides of the truck was that it didn’t have a lot of power, as it had a 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder engine. This meant that it was rather slow excelerating when merging on the highway, but I’d say the exceleration was fine driving in the city. I was, however, able to pull a decent sized trailer when I helped a friend move, and I hauled a lot of stuff around in the truck bed, as I helped a lot of friends move. Yes, owning a truck has its drawbacks! LOL
The gas mileage was about 20 to 24 on the highway, and about 18 to 20 in the city. Not great, but not bad considering some of the larger trucks only get 10 to 12 miles per gallon.
Overall, I really liked my truck, and I highly recommend a Mazda pickup truck to anyone who is considering purchasing one. Mazda also makes a B3000 which has a V6 engine, which is a good option if you are looking for a little bit more power.
